Pearse Doherty TD welcomes David Drumm conviction
Sinn Féin Finance spokesperson Pearse Doherty TD has welcomed the conviction of David Drumm.
Deputy Doherty said:
“After ten years the Irish people are finally seeing some justice delivered.
"The damage done by Anglo Irish bank to the Irish nation is almost immeasurable and let us not forget we are still paying for the damage through the prom notes and the IBRC liquidation.
"We cannot pretend that this one conviction marks the end for the pursuit of justice for the Irish people.
"One man being convicted of two charges ten years after the events is hardly a ringing endorsement of Irish justice. White collar crime continues to go unpunished and unpunishable in this State every day.
"Over the next few months the country will reflect on the tenth anniversary of the events of the banking crisis.
"I do not believe many will feel any sense of closure or justice when those anniversaries have come and gone.
"There is a huge mountain of work before us to make sure such a scandal cannot happen again and to hold those responsible to account.
"This should spur on the government to look at introducing legislation to make reckless lending a crime for example.”
