Maskey welcomes launch of West Belfast Drugs Panel report

11 June, 2018 - by Alex Maskey

Sinn Féin West Belfast MLA Alex Maskey has welcomed the launch of the West Belfast Community Drugs Panel report which aims to tackle drug-related issues in the area.

Speaking at the launch of the report, Alex Maskey said:

“I welcome the launch of this vital West Belfast community and statutory report on dealing with the scourge of drugs in our society. This report is an important step in dealing with this issue which affects people across society.

“The model of a community and statutory panel is a very effective vehicle which gives the community a voice in the implementation of overarching strategies.

“This report makes for sobering reading and there is lessons for statutory bodies, public representatives and the wider community that needed to be taken on board and implemented.

“While the panel was focused mainly in West Belfast, this report has a more wider applicability for communities right across the north.

“I and my party colleagues will now take on the recommendations and work with all of the relevant statutory bodies and communities to ensure that this report is implemented.”
