Inquiry into death of Shane O’Farrell must not be delayed – Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire TD
Speaking this evening in the Dáil, Sinn Féin's Justice Spokesperson Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire TD said an inquiry into the death of Shane O’Farrell must commence without delay.
Teachta Ó Laoghaire said;
“Sinn Féin is of the belief that a public inquiry is required, and not just because of the deficiencies of the latest GSOC report which was nothing short of farcical, but by virtue of the fact that this investigation arguably should not have been before GSOC because the failures in this case go far beyond An Garda Síochána.
“They extend to the Courts Service and the DPP, and their operations and information sharing throughout this case, some of the failings led to an accumulation of errors which, had have been dealt with differently we would have no need for this discussion nor this motion this evening.
“Considering that all avenues have now been exhausted, it is clear that an inquiry is the only way of getting to the truth.
"It has been far too long already.
“We are now approaching the seventh anniversary of Shane's death. We cannot delay any further.”
