Sinn Féin & DUP Join ranks to support School

7 September, 2005

Sinn Féin Education Spokesperson Michael Ferguson has welcomed news that the DUP MP David Simpson has thrown his weight behind Brownlow Integrated College's attempts to secure A' Level status.

Sinn Féin had made representation to the Government supporting the College and its attempts to secure A‚ Level Status in partnership with Lismore Catholic Comprehensive school both of whom were also in partnership with Upper Bann Institute for Further & Higher Education.

The School had successfully identified a cohort of Key Stage 4 pupils capable of Advanced Education and in conjunction with Lismore piloted a Local Partnership Solution which was in keeping with the Department of Education‚s policy and plans to promote LPSs as part of Second Level Education.

Commenting upon the matter Michael Ferguson said,

"It is excellent news that David Simpson has now extended his support to Brownlow Integrated College‚s attempt to secure A' Level Teaching Status.

The proposal by Brownlow given its recent GSCE exam results makes very good sense and is consistent with the Department of Education's own strategic objectives which recommend the development of Local Partnership Solutions (LPSs).

The current relationship that Brownlow enjoys with Lismore and Upper Bann IFHE reinforces Brownlow's good common sense approach to meeting the needs of a changing educational landscape and David Simpson‚s intervention is welcome." ENDS
