Ó Muilleoir condemns those responsible for erecting loyalist flags on Ormeau Road

20 June, 2018 - by Máirtín Ó Muilleoir

Sinn Féin South Belfast MLA Máirtín Ó Muilleoir has condemned those responsible for erecting loyalist flags on the Ormeau Road.

The South Belfast MLA said:

“The erection of loyalist flags on the Ormeau Road is again an attempt to intimidate and raise community tensions.

"Those carrying out such actions are only interested in exacerbating difference and fomenting discord and they need to desist.

“Residents of this mixed community have been very vocal in their opposition to the use of flags in this way. Their views have been ignored and treated with contempt.

“There is no validity in a secret consultation between the DUP and loyalists, disappointingly endorsed by the Green Party, which ignores the views of the wider community of Ballynafeigh.

“Let me be quite clear there is no justification in using flags to intimidate, harass people or to mark territory."
