‘Parties jointly challenge Department over neurology recall’ - Sheehan
The five main political parties have again jointly challenged the head of the Health Department over the handling of the neurology patient recall, Sinn Féin MLA Pat Sheehan has revealed.
Confirming that the parties have jointly written to Department of Health Permanent Secretary, the Sinn Féin Health spokesperson commented: “In the letter today I have expressed again, on behalf of the five main political parties, our objection to the complete absence of consideration to input from elected representatives in to the Terms of Reference for the Inquiry Panel into the neurology patient recall.
"Remember, this is the largest recall of patients in the north of Ireland.
"Political representatives views should have been engaged in relation to the development of the panel’s Terms of Reference.
"This would in no way compromise the panel’s independence.
"We have also raised our objection to the Department’s unilateral decision to discontinue the fortnightly cross-party briefings in relation to the recall of neurology patients.
"These briefings are both necessary and important in raising the serious concerns of affected neurology patients caught up in the recall.
"These briefings need to be reinstated as a matter of urgency."
