Sinn Féin welcome successful Pensioners Parliament
Sinn Féin spokesperson for older People Ian Milne has welcomed the success of the latest Pensioners Parliament event.
Commenting after meeting with Age Sector Platform, the Mid-Ulster MLA said: “It was great to meet with Eamonn Donaghy from Age Sector Platform today. We discussed a long list of pressing issues facing older people including fuel poverty, health and social care, age discrimination and crime.
“These issues were all raised in the Pensioner Parliament series organised and run by Age Sector Platform. They covered all the councils in the North and had close to 900 older people from all backgrounds participating. The 2018 pensioner parliament programme has just finished and I got the privilege of attending one myself.
“I personally raised the most recent reports from COPNI into Dunmurry care home and the wider report into Adult Social Care reform.”
“Previously I welcomed the relaunch of the ‘Feel Safe’ guide for older people. Fear of crime can be devastating for an older personal physical and mental health. Helping our older people to not only feel safe but to stay safe should be a job for everyone.”
“Sinn Féin will continue to work with Age Sector Platform to deliver better outcomes for our older people.”
