Ryanair have only themselves to blame for potential summer flight chaos – Imelda Munster TD
Sinn Féin Transport spokesperson Imelda Munster TD has called on Ryanair to honour its commitment and finalise an agreement on union recognition, as Irish-based pilots working for the company today overwhelmingly voted in favour of industrial action. 99% of members of Irish Airline Pilots’ Association (IALPA) voted in favour of industrial action this afternoon, up to and including strike action.
Deputy Munster said:
“Given the chaos of last year, and given that Ryanair had publicly stated that it will finally recognise unions, Ryanair only has itself to blame for the threatened industrial action, as there has been no follow through on that commitment.
“The question Ryanair has to ask itself is if it is prepared to allow further chaos and disruption for passengers in the high season, and if it is prepared to cause stress and worry for families who are looking forward to their summer holidays.
“Or will Ryanair honour to commitment they made and commit to the finalisation of a formal agreement on union recognition, and deal with the ongoing issues that staff have been highlighting for many years. It’s high time they caught up with other airlines who recognise their workers’ right to have trade union recognition.
“I hope that both sides can engage in meaningful dialogue and can come to a mutually agreeable outcome, and spare passengers from chaos over the coming months.”
