McDonald welcomes overdue construction on O’Devaney Gardens
Sinn Féin President Mary Lou McDonald TD and Cllr Janice Boylan have welcomed confirmation that construction work on the first phase of O’Devaney Gardens will now begin immediately. Almost 600 social, affordable and private homes will be constructed on the site over the next number of years at a cost of over €100 Million.
Speaking this morning at the official sod turning at O’Devaney, Ms McDonald TD said:
“Work on this site is long overdue. However, I welcome the fact that construction workers are now on site preparing to deliver the first phase of social housing. This project, when completed, will provide much needed housing and community facilities in my constituency of Dublin Central. It has the potential to reinvigorate and restore this part of Dublin's North West Inner-City.”
Local Sinn Féin representative for the area, Cllr Janice Boylan added:
“As someone who grew up in this area, I saw first-hand how it was decimated when residents were forced out of the old worn out flats. I’m delighted to have been associated with this significant project which I feel will transform the local community. I look forward to seeing the construction work complete and families beginning to take up residency again in the area.”
