Anderson calls for halt to planned demolition of Palestinian village
Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has called for action from the international community to halt the latest planned expansion of the illegal Israeli settlements on Palestinian land.
Martina Anderson said:
"Today, the Israeli state are impeding on the rights of the Bedouin villagers of Khan-al-Ahmar near Jerusalem, putting their homes and the local school in imminent danger of demolition.
"Dozens of police officers and soldiers surrounded the Palestinian community within Khan al Ahmar early this morning.
"The people of Khan Al-Ahmar are registered with the UN as Refugees and will be made homeless if these demolitions are carried out, becoming Refugees over again.
"This is legally, morally, and ethically indefensible. The Israeli army recently declared the area a closed military zone which raised fears amongst Palestinian families that the looming demolition orders are due to be carried out any time now.
"Once again, the Israeli state defy International Law and basic human rights.
"I call on them to immediately halt the planned demolition in Khan Al-Ahmar and the international community must come together and demand an end to this inhumane activity of demolishing villages in order to expand illegal Israeli settlements."
