Concern across EU about Brexit impact on peace process - Anderson
Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson said there is clear concern across the EU about the scant regard the Tories have for the impact of Brexit on the peace process.
Speaking from Strasbourg, Martina Anderson said:
"Today I briefed members of the European Parliament's Peace Process Support Group to discuss the undermining of our peace agreements by the Tory Brexit agenda.
"There is widespread concern across the EU of the damage Brexit will do to the peace process and the scant disregard Theresa May and the Brexiteers have shown for the Good Friday Agreement.
"There is also a deep concern about the impact Brexit will have on the hard won rights of the people of the north, particularly as we approach the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights campaign.
"MEPs from across the EU realise that the Tories care little for the peace process and the rights of people in the north.
"That is why it is vital that the issues of Ireland, the border and rights are kept at the centre of the ongoing Brexit negotiations and not allowed to be cast aside in favour of other matters."
