Government must do more for carers – Senator Máire Devine

5 July, 2018 - by Máire Devine

Sinn Féin Senator Máire Devine has expressed resentment after her amendment that would give carers full entitlement to drugs, medicines, and medical and surgical appliances - not just medical and surgical services as proposed by the Health (General Practitioners) amendment Bill 2018, has been disallowed by the Seanad Office.

The Sinn Féin Seanad Spokesperson on Health said;

“I am exacerbated that our amendment has been ruled out of order. Carers are the scaffolding that hold together the most vulnerable parts of our society, and this government does not appreciate them or their needs.

"The contribution carers make to our society is un-quantifiable. This is from both a social and financial point of view.

"We will be resubmitting our amendment in the Dáil, and I would urge Fine Gael to consider their support. I will work with my colleagues to ensure that this amendment is not forgotten about. It is too important.”
