Department must do more to assist Billy Caldwell - Begley
Sinn Féin MP Órfhlaith Begley has said the Department of Health could and should do more to assist Billy Caldwell in enabling him to receive his medication at home in Castlederg.
Speaking at a press conference in Belfast tonight, the West Tyrone MP said:
“It’s welcome news that Billy Caldwell is now back on Irish soil with an emergency licence for medication, however, the Department of Health have placed further barriers on Billy returning to his family home.
“From the outset, the Department have been reluctant to engage with myself or Billy’s mother, I have written to them on a number of occasions and they have refused to comment on his case.
“This is unhelpful and serves the interests of no one. They could and should do more to assist Billy in receiving the best possible healthcare for his condition rather than standing in the way without explanation.
“I am calling on the the Department to step up to the mark and grant permission for Billy to return to his home in Castlederg with his medication as a matter of urgency.”
