Any Tory deal must protect rights and agreements - Anderson
Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has said any deal which may emerge from today’s British cabinet summit cannot be credible if it does not address the issues of Ireland, the border and the rights of people in the north.
Martina Anderson said:
“As the warring factions of the Tory cabinet meet in Chequers today it is important that people do not lose sight of the absolute necessity to address the issues of Ireland, the border and our rights.
“Protecting the rights of the people of Ireland, the Good Friday Agreement and our economy is more important than protecting Theresa May.
“Any deal that may or may not emerge from the British cabinet of chaos has to be workable and has to deliver what the British government have already pledged to do, and that is to protect the Good Friday Agreement and avoid a hard border on the island of Ireland.
“If any proposal is cobbled together at Chequers which does not to these things then it must be rejected by the Irish government and the EU.”
