Flynn calls for suspension of mesh procedure
Órlaithí Flynn has called on the Department of Health to immediately suspend surgical mesh treatments for stress urinary incontinence. Her call follows the decision of the Cumberlege Review to pause such procedures in England.
The Sinn Féin MLA said:“Too many women have endured extreme pain and misery as a result of mesh treatments.
“In the absence of any evidence that the benefits outweigh the suffering inflicted the Cumberlage Review has recommended that the procedure be suspended.
“The NHS in England has accepted the recommendation and the Department of Health in the north should immediately follow suit.
“No more women should suffer.”
