Gildernew challenges May over denial of rights
Sinn Féin MP Michelle Gildernew has challenged the British Prime Minister to meet people denied equality and rights by the DUP when she visits Fermanagh today.
The Fermanagh South Tyrone MP commented: “Theresa May is in Fermanagh today where I am sure she will hear what she wants to hear from the DUP leadership.
“However, if the British Prime Minister wants to get a real understanding of the impact of her government’s policies then she should meet with representatives of the people that her government has abandoned in its toxic pact with the DUP.
“The LGBT community, women, victims of the conflict and the Irish language community have all been denied equality because Theresa May is placating the DUP in order to cling to power.
“She should have the courage to meet those people today and explain to them face the face why she does not believe they are entitled to rights available everywhere else on these islands.”
