McDonald to tell May ‘Brexit chaos is intolerable’
Sinn Féin Leader Mary Lou McDonald, Deputy Leader Michelle O’Neill and Conor Murphy MLA will be available to speak to the media at 9.30am tomorrow morning Friday 20 July at the Culloden Hotel after meeting with British Prime Minister Theresa May.
Speaking ahead of tomorrow morning’s meeting Mary Lou McDonald said:
“I will be setting out Sinn Féin’s serious concern about the failure by the British government to protect the rights and interests of the people of the north who voted to remain in the EU.
“The British government’s Brexit chaos has been marked by prevarication and stalling, ever changing positions and broken agreements.
“This situation is intolerable and unacceptable.
“Theresa May agreed last December that a backstop solution for the Irish border will form part of the legal text of the Withdrawal Agreement, and that this backstop would apply, unless and until, another solution is found.
“The British government must stand by that protocol and commit to the rigorous impartiality required of it under the Good Friday Agreement and the effective operation of the political institutions set up under that agreement.”
