Sinn Féin backs Belfast protest at May’s support for denial of rights
Sinn Féin Seanadóir Niall Ó Donnghaile has said citizens in the north are being denied the same rights that citizens elsewhere on these islands enjoy because Theresa May is appeasing the DUP in order to cling to power.
Seanadóir Ó Donnghaile was speaking ahead of an equality demonstration at the Crescent Arts Centre, Belfast at 8:45am this morning Friday 20 July. The protest is being organised by groups whose rights are being denied by the DUP with the support of the British Prime Minister.
Niall Ó Donnghaile said:
“Sinn Féin will attend the equality demonstration and I would call on all those who support rights for all to be at the Crescent Arts Centre this morning to make the British Prime Minister aware of the impact of her government’s support for the DUP’s denial of rights here in the north.
“The Irish language community, the LGBT community, women, victims of the conflict are all being denied basic rights and equality because of the toxic Tory/DUP pact.
“Citizens here in the north are being denied the same rights that citizens elsewhere on these islands enjoy because Theresa May is appeasing the DUP in order to cling to power.
“That is unacceptable and the British government must implement the Good Friday and other agreements and work with the Irish government through the British Irish Intergovernmental Conference to deal with the rights issues at the heart of the political impasse."
