Call for Gardaí to take action against those involved in intimidation

12 September, 2005

Sinn Féin Councillor Daithí Doolan has condemned outright the reported intimidation of a Dublin City Councillor and a member of the media in the Pearse Street area in recent days. He called on the Gardaí to take immediate action against the individual responsible.

Councillor Doolan said:

"I want to condemn outright the reported intimidation of a Dublin City Councillor and a member of the media in the Pearse Street area in recent days. Such intimidation is totally unacceptable and I would call on the Gardaí to take immediate action against the individual responsible.

"Over the last week I have been in contact with the Rafferty family to encourage them to make a formal complaint to Dublin City Council to allow Council officials to take action against individuals who have been involved in anti-social behaviour and intimidation in the area. I have raised the matter with the Garda Superintendent in Pearse Street and I will also be raising the issue at an area meeting of the City Council this afternoon.

"Contrary to claims in the Evening Herald the individual who made these threats is not and has never been a member of Sinn Féin and we would not tolerate such behaviour from anyone in our party.

"Once again I would like to offer my support to the Rafferty family in their search for justice and to call on anyone with information to come forward to the Gardaí."ENDS
