Begley welcomes possession order for Billy Caldwell
Sinn Féin MP Órfhlaith Begley has welcomed the decision by the Department of Health to issue a possession order to allow Billy Caldwell’s medicinal cannabis to be administered at home.
The West Tyrone MP commented,
“Today we have seen the announcement that Billy will receive a possession order for his medicine as well as the announcement by the British Home Secretary that specialist doctors will be able to legally prescribe cannabis derived medicine by autumn.
“This is a very positive decision that has been taken today which now means that Billy can have his medicine administered at home in Castlederg.
“I have been in regular contact with Billy’s mother Charlotte and the health authorities urging them to grant this order and today I accompanied his mother Charlotte to Castle Buildings where she was given the possession order.
“This is a particularly special day for Billy as this news comes as he celebrates his birthday today.
“This has been a long, hard battle to get to the point we are at today. Therefore, I am delighted Billy is now able to remain at home, receive his medication and continue his treatment.
"I want to thank all those who have helped get us to this stage."
