Gildernew encourages participation in Children’s Future Food Inquiry
Sinn Féin MP Michelle Gildernew has called on organisations working in the poverty and children’s welfare sectors to provide evidence to an inquiry into children’s food insecurity.
The Fermanagh South Tyrone MP commented,
“On the back of Tory austerity there has been a rise in the number of children who don’t have regular access to healthy food.
“Given that we are in the middle of holiday season, there is the possibility that some children in poverty will experience ‘holiday hunger’ as they are not guaranteed their one school meal.
“The Children’s Future Food Inquiry is an opportunity to highlight food insecurity as a growing problem that needs to be tackled to protect children from the effects of austerity and poverty.”
