Geo-blocking raised with GAA and RTÉ - Sinn Féin
Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Culture, Art and Sport Sinéad Ennis MLA and Senator Niall Ó Donnghaile today brought the “Fair Play For Ulster Gaels” campaign to Dublin.
The Sinn Féin representatives held meetings with the GAA Director General at Croke Park and RTÉ’s Head of Sports Programming to discuss the problems faced by northern viewers when content is blocked in the 6 Counties.
Speaking after the meeting Sinéad Ennis said:
“Today’s engagements proved worthwhile and informative. They allowed myself and Niall to raise the growing concerns around geo-blocking directly with the GAA and RTÉ.
Our meetings were informative and afforded us the opportunity to put very firmly to both organisations, the fact that the current problems around geo-blocking need addressed and resolved in a collaborative and positive way between the rights holders and the broadcasters.”
Seanadóir Ó Donnghaile added:
“We look forward to continued engagement with both the GAA and RTÉ and intend to hold further meetings to monitor and evaluate progress. We also intend to hold further meetings with satellite providers and other sporting bodies to discuss the campaign and what measures they can take to ensure fair, equal and unhindered access to important national, sporting events.”
