‘Physio improvements needed for those injured by mesh implants’ - Flynn
Sinn Féin mental health spokesperson Órlaithí Flynn has urged the Department of Health to ensure all physiotherapists receive appropriate information and guidance on handling patients with mesh injuries.
The West Belfast MLA said:“As urinary incontinence affects up to a third of women at some stage in their lives, much more education and awareness is required.“Better pathways are needed for all areas of pelvic health including for those injured by mesh.
“These pathways should not be rigid as some women injured by mesh feel they are attending physio needlessly.
“The Health Department must take the necessary steps to ensure those injured by mesh are receiving the most effective care and treatment to meet their specific needs."
