Oireachtas TV service should be made available to viewers in the North – Ó Donnghaile
Sinn Féin Senator and spokesperson on ‘North-South Integration’ Niall Ó Donnghaile has written to the Ceann Comhairle Seán Ó Fearghaíl requesting that the ‘Oireachtas TV’ service, available to television viewers in the South, be made equally available for viewers in the Six Counties.
Speaking today, Seanadóir Ó Donnghaile said:
“Oireachtas TV is a positive service which brings the business of both Houses directly into people’s homes; it also produces documentary material as well as panel reviews and discussions.
“The service, which is broadcast twenty four hours a day, is currently available via a number of satellite platforms in the south but remains unavailable to viewers here in the Six Counties.
“There is of course an acute interest in matters in the Dáil and Seanad here in the North. This interest has grown given the fallout from Brexit. The extension of this service would be well received and would further benefit the Oireachtas by giving greater coverage to citizens.
“I look forward to discussing this matter further with the Ceann Comhairle and Oireachtas officials in the coming weeks in order to bring the business of the House into even more homes.”
