McGuigan welcomes confirmation investigation into Paisley fundraisers won't be delayed
Sinn Féin MLA Philip McGuigan has welcomed confirmation that the investigation into the DUP fundraising dinners hosted by Ian Paisley Jnr is still ongoing.
The North Antrim MLA said:
“I had written to the Electoral Commission regarding concerns that were raised to me by several constituents that the investigation into the DUP fundraising dinners had been put on the back burner during the recall petition process.
“I welcome the fact that the Electoral Commission have confirmed to me that this is not the case.
“Ratepayers deserve to know whether the DUP benefitted financially from the council’s money, and if so, what is going to be done about it.
“The people of North Antrim are appalled at sleaze in politics, a lack of integrity in public office and a series of scandals linked to the DUP going back many years.
“This recall petition is an opportunity the electorate of North Antrim to use their democratic right to vote against corruption, sleaze and scandals in a by election."
