May's no deal Brexit remarks display staggering arrogance - Anderson
Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has said Theresa May's comments on the consequences of a no-deal Brexit show a staggering arrogance and total disdain for the people of the north.
Martina Anderson said:
"It is becoming clearer by the day that the Tories are now actively planning for a no-deal Brexit, whether by design or by accident as a result of the fact that they have no coherent strategy.
"Theresa May's remarks today that a no-deal Brexit 'would not be the end of the world' show her total lack of empathy and indeed disdain for all of those who will face the devastating consequences of her ill-considered Brexit agenda.
"It is characteristic of the attitude of Tory Brexiteers, particularly towards the north of Ireland where the true extent of a no-deal Brexit will be fell most acutely.
"Theresa May might not think it’s the end of the world but it will be the end of many of the rights we take for granted and could be the end of important EU funding streams for our farmers, our community organisations and our universities.
"It could also herald the end of uninterrupted all-Ireland travel that we have experienced for the last two decades.
"This staggering arrogance from Theresa May highlights the need for the north to secure special status within the EU to safeguard our rights from this Tory disaster."
