Unionists should stop blaming everyone else for their negative leadership

16 September, 2005

Sinn Féin policing Spokesperson, North Belfast MLA Gerry Kelly has said unionists need to show some positive leadership and stop trying to blame everyone else for the loyalist sectarian violence of recent days.

Mr Kelly said:

"Unionist have tried to blame everyone but themselves for the sectarian loyalist violence of recent days.

"Unionists and Loyalists clearly expect the PSNI to allow them to act with impunity. Their threat to withdraw from the DPPs is an obvious attempt by them to ensure they are allowed continue their disruptive actions and attempts to destabilise the political process.

"The truth is of course that the sectarian violence that has seen nationalists attacked right across the six counties is a result of the negative leaderships of the UUP and DUP. Collectively the UUP and DUP seem determined to lead their communities into a political cul-de-sac." ENDS
