Police investigation into Dunmurry Manor must be thorough – Gildernew

30 August, 2018 - by Colm Gildernew

Sinn Féin MLA Colm Gildernew has said the police investigation into Dunmurry Manor must be thorough and robust and be concluded as quickly as possible.

The Fermanagh South Tyrone MLA commented:

“It’s very worrying that a police investigation has to be launched into the care of people in a home.

”The Department of Health and the Health Trusts have a responsibility to ensure that vulnerable people have the very highest standards of care.

“That clearly hasn’t been the case in Dunmurry Manor.

“My colleagues and I met with the PSNI following the publication of the Older Person's Commissioner Eddie Lynch report into care at Dunmurry Manor.

“WE will be meeting the PSNI again following today’s announcement that it is to investigate if there has been any wrongdoing in Dunmurry Manor.

“That investigation needs to thorough, robust and needs to be concluded as quickly as possible.

“There is an onus on the Trust and the owners of the home to fully co-operate with that investigation and anyone involved in criminality and wrongdoing must be brought before the courts.”

“Lessons need to be learned.”
