'Dunmurry investigation must be comprehensive' - Gildernew
Sinn Féin MLA Colm Gildernew has said the PSNI’s investigation into allegations of criminality and wrong doing at Dunmurry Manor care home must be thorough and robust.
The party’s Carers spokesperson also said that the Department of Health must continue to investigate systemic failings in its care of vulnerable adults so that it never happens again.
Colm Gildernew said:
“The events at Dunmurry Manor care home displayed degrading and unacceptable treatment of some of the most vulnerable people in our society.
“This was exposed in a scathing report by the Commissioner for Older People, who also reported a failure to report serious adverse incidents.
“The PSNI’s investigation into allegations of criminality and wrongdoing must be thorough and robust and be brought to a conclusion as quickly as possible.
"The Department of Health must continue its investigation into into systemic failings in the care of people in Dunmurry Manor.
“People should not have to wait for proper care. It is clear that in the Dunmurry Manor case, the system failed people.
“There is an onus on the RQIA, the Health Trusts and Runwood Homes to recognise and respond to failures at Dunmurry Manor, to co-operate fully with the police inquiry and ensure this never happens again.”
