Boylan hits out at excessive gas price hike
Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Boylan has said he is deeply concerned and disappointed at Firmus Energy’s decision to increase gas prices by twelve percent.
The party’s spokesperson on Energy, Environment and Climate Spokesperson said:
“I am deeply concerned and disappointed that Firmus Energy has decided to hike its gas prices by twelve percent from October this year.
“This surge will see a staggering annual bill increase of £65 for Firmus customers in Belfast and £75 for customers outside of Belfast.
“Ultimately this hike was place increased pressure on many people who are already struggling to pay their bills and heat their homes. This will further increase fuel poverty.
“While Sinn Féin acknowledges the rising costs of energy and gas production, we feel these issues could be partially mitigated if Firmus Energy took more steps to diversify its gas supply.
“The ‘Powering Ireland 2030’ document outlines Sinn Féin’s vision of how sustainable and secure and energy in Ireland can be affordable for all. No one in our society should be struggling to heat their homes.”
