Gildernew concerned at Department of Health lack of urgency on Brexit
Sinn Féin MLA Colm Gildernew has expressed frustration at the lack of urgency and transparency from the Department of Health in their Brexit preparations.
The Fermanagh South Tyrone MLA is writing to Department today after receiving a response providing little detail on their plans.
Colm Gildernew said:
"Having met with Department of Health and the health and social care sector over a number of months with regards to Brexit, I am concerned at what appears to be a serious lack of urgency and transparency in their Brexit preparations.
“Health officials informed myself and Pat Sheehan MLA at a meeting in April that DoH Arms Length Bodies had been tasked with providing Scenario Plans for a no-deal Brexit.
"While Department officials had initially hoped to receive plans in March we were told that this had changed to July.
"At that meeting we emphasised the need for the Department to be open and transparent in their preparations. We were told that they were planning to have a dedicated webpage to make information on Brexit Health issues publicly available, and that they expected it to be operational in the coming days or weeks.
"I wrote to the Department in August seeking an update on developments but unfortunately it appears the Scenario Plans have still not been published and the planned Department of Health Brexit dedicated webpage is not now going ahead.
"Once again, I am writing to the Department today to call on them to publish the Brexit Scenario Plans and to demonstrate real urgency and transparency in their preparations.
"Sinn Féin will continue to represent the serious concerns of the public and those working in health and social care with regards to Brexit."
