Ó Caoláin rules out Presidential bid
In a statement earlier today, Tuesday 11th September, Sinn Féin Deputy Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin recorded his thanks to the Sinn Féin structures that nominated him for the Presidential candidate role, stating that he did not wish to be considered for the position, a decision that he has again communicated to the party leadership.
The Cavan Monaghan Deputy, his party’s longest serving elected representative in the state, has given a “personal and enthusiastic” endorsement to the other nominated member, Liadh Ní Riada MEP.
Deputy Ó Caoláin said;
“I am both thankful and humbled by the confidence expressed in me by those nominating structures who have put my name forward for consideration by the Ard Comhairle for the role and responsibility of candidate for Sinn Féin in the upcoming Presidential contest.
“I am absolutely settled on returning to unelected life after more than 33 years of public elected service and do not wish to be considered for this honoured role.
“We have a most able and highly skilled woman potential candidate in Liadh Ní Riada MEP and I personally and enthusiastically add my name to her endorsement list. If ratified, I pledge my wholehearted support for her candidature.”
