DUP looking excuses to avoid meaningful dialogue – Murphy
Sinn Féin negotiator Conor Murphy said tonight the DUP is looking excuses to avoid meaningful political talks to get the Executive up and running.
Conor Murphy was speaking after the DUP’s Arlene Foster opposed an independent chair facilitating talks.
The Newry Armagh MLA said:
“The DUP has not engaged in any meaningful dialogue since they walked away from a deal and collapsed the political talks in February this year.
“They have been emboldened in this intransigence by their pact with the British Tory government which has supported their denial of rights to the people of the north.
“Arlene Foster now says she is opposed to the idea of an independent chair facilitating talks.
“What does the DUP have to fear from an independent facilitator?
“It’s clear the DUP is looking only for excuses to avoid meaningful political talks to get the Executive up and running.”
