Bairbre de Brún hails community project in Portadown as 'local success story'
Sinn Féin MEP Bairbre de Brún has today hailed a community owned business centre on the Garvaghy Road in Portadown as a 'local success story.' The Mayfair Business Centre is a community owned business initiative and employs over 100 local people.
Ms de Brún spoke at the official opening of six new units, which will create between 15 and 20 extra jobs. The cross community centre houses food production facilities, wholesale warehousing, charity groups and telecommunications amongst others.
Speaking after the launch Ms de Brún said:
"I want to pay tribute to the work of the Mayfair Business Centre on the Garvaghy Road. The centre has been open for ten years, and what better way to celebrate than with the opening of six new units in the centre.
"Part of my job as an MEP is to persuade others in the European Parliament and European Commission that continued funding for PEACE and the International Fund for Ireland, is not only worthy but effective. This is a shining example of how effective such funding can be.
"Investment through the International Fund for Ireland and the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB) coupled with the hard work of the local community has ensured that the Mayfair Business Centre has become a local success story.
"The Mayfair Business Centre has a proven record of success with the funding they have received to date. They thoroughly deserve future support" ENDS
