Gerry Adams and Martin Ferris update republican prisoners in Castlerea on peace process developments

20 September, 2005

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams MP and Martin Ferris TD today met with the eight republican prisoners in Castlerea jail to update them on developments in the peace process.

Mr. Adams said, "Today myself and Martin Ferris met with the eight republican prisoners in Castlerea jail. We updated them on developments in the peace process since the IRA made its historic announcement. We told them that we were confident that the IRA was going to keep to all of its commitments in the July statement.

"With the ending of the IRA's armed campaign new opportunities to advance the peace process have opened up. But there are also a number of outstanding issues to be dealt with including the ongoing detention of a small number of IRA prisoners. Sinn Féin is committed to securing their release." ENDS
