Protect Life 2 strategy crucial to saving lives - Flynn
Sinn Féin MLA Órlaithí Flynn has said everyone has a role to play in eradicating suicide from society and that the Protect Life 2 strategy will play a crucial role in coordinating efforts.
The party’s Mental Health and Suicide Prevention spokesperson said:
“I have met the Department of Health on a number of occasions seeking updates and assurances that efforts to develop the Protect Life 2 suicide prevention strategy
“This strategy will play a crucial role in saving lives lost to suicide. We must remember that suicide is preventable.
“I and Sinn Féin colleagues have worked closely with local schools on suicide prevention measures within schools and developing emotional resilience at an early age.
“Last month we received welcome confirmation from the PHA that they aim to have the crisis de-escalation centre in Belfast up and running by January.
“I will be meeting with those responsible for the roll out of the street triage service in the coming weeks.
“Sinn Féin have been central to ensuring the Lifeline service remains operational and the handover to Belfast trust saw no negative impact for service users.
“Everyone has a role to play in eradicating suicide, we will only overcome this plight by working together and focusing on tackling the root causes.”
