‘Department must overturn cancer patient PIP decision’ - Maskey
Sinn Féin MP Paul Maskey has called on the Department for Communities to overturn a decision refusing Personal Independence Payment to Belfast woman Roisin McWilliams, who is suffering stage four cancer.
Urging the department to rectify the decision and backdate payments, Paul Maskey said:
“The decision to refuse PIP to cancer patient Roisin McWilliams is absolutely horrendous.
“This young woman has a three-year-old child and currently is in stage four of her cancer and already faces extreme pressure as her chemotherapy treatment isn’t working.
“Her family are fighting cancer with her and shouldn’t have to enter into a fight for financial resource from PIP - that should come automatically.
“This is one of the worst cases I have heard of in my time as an elected representative.
“The Department of Communities should immediately rectify this decision and provide Roisin with the necessary benefits to meet her needs along with backdated payments.
“I have spoken to Roisin's father and I will be making representation to the Department of Communities to have this issue resolved as a matter of urgency.”
