Gildernew concerned about difficulties accessing Epipens
Sinn Féin MLA Colm Gildernew has expressed concern at the ongoing difficulties in sourcing EpiPens for people with severe and life threatening allergic reactions.
The party’s Carers spokesperson said:
“I recently met with the Food Standards Agency on this issue of EpiPens and the need for people in cases of severe and life threatening allergic reactions to food products containing nuts to have immediate access to these pens.
“It’s important that people check food labels and ask questions when out ordering food. There is an onus on us all to be aware of the dangers and I commend efforts within the food industry to ensure all warnings and ingredients are listed.
“Young people returning to or beginning College or University should speak up about their allergies and ask questions regarding food ingredients when eating out.
“This shortage and the potential fall out of Brexit raises serious concerns that stockpiling and access issues for other medicines such as insulin may be the norm.”
