Operation of new terminal must remain in the hands of Dublin Airport Authority

21 September, 2005

Sinn Féin Transport spokesperson Seán Crowe TD has welcomed the announcement of plans for a new passenger terminal at Dublin Airport but said Sinn Féin will continue to oppose the decision to privatise the operation of the new terminal.

Speaking today Deputy Crowe said, "I welcome the fact that the plans have finally been announced to build the second terminal at Dublin Airport but Sinn Féin will continue to oppose the decision to privatise the terminal's operation. The operation of the new terminal must remain in the hands of the Dublin Airport Authority.

"The increased volume through Dublin Airport that has necessitated the new terminal also poses other serious questions. The need for an integrated transport policy for the Airport is now more pressing than ever. Successive Governments have dragged their heels on this issue and this has to stop. I call on the Minister to finalise the plans for the building of the Airport/City Centre Metro. This should happen in tandem with the building of the new terminal." ENDS
