Report shows undergrounding of Interconnector is feasible - Boylan
Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Boylan has said a report commissioned by the Irish government has clearly shown that undergrounding the North-South Interconnector is feasible.
The party's Environment, Energy & Climate Change spokesperson said:
“Up until this point we have been continuously told that the undergrounding of the North-South Interconnector wasn’t feasible.
“Today's report shows that it is feasible. We have been saying this all along and can see examples of where it has been used in Belgium and Germany.
“Any proposal to develop this scheme overground will be met by widespread public opposition. In the face of that and trying to avoid undue delays we should proceed with the underground option.
“Sinn Féin will continue to lobby for the North-South Interconnector to be developed underground as is the wishes of those communities in which it is to be built.”
