Teachers paying the price for Tory/DUP austerity - Mullan
Sinn Féin MLA Karen Mullan has commended the role of teachers in working to improve the lives of children in the face of relentless Tory/DUP cuts to education budgets.
Speaking on World Teacher Day, the party’s Education spokesperson said:
“Teachers play a valuable role in helping young people to develop through life, both educationally and by helping them to prepare for life.
“It’s no surprise that here in the north we see steady improvement year on year in exam results both at GCSE and A-Level. Much of that is due to the hard work and commitment of our teachers.
“Teachers carry out this work in the face of relentless budget cuts imposed by the Tory/DUP pact which undoubtedly impact on our children's education and teachers ability to teach.
“The Tory Government should provide additional resources to ensure we have adequate finances to remove the pay-cap and to protect public services.
“Sinn Féin will continue to oppose austerity, defend front-line services and campaign for adequate funding for our public services and our public sector workers.”
