Kearney welcomes Department’s action on Glenavy tree concerns

7 October, 2018 - by Declan Kearney

Sinn Féin MLA Declan Kearney has welcomed a recommendation committing the Department for Infrastructure to addressing residents’ concerns about overhanging trees in Glenavy.

The South Antrim MLA said:

“Earlier this year, residents of Glen River Mews, Glenavy raised concerns with me about the condition of trees on the Moira Road overhanging their properties.

“In response to these concerns, I arranged a site meeting with Transport NI who agreed to engage a specialist arborist to carry out a survey into potential hazards for local residential properties.

“This survey was carried out and Transport NI has now confirmed for me that the arborist’s report recommends the Department for Infrastructure should undertake pollarding of twenty-two Poplar trees overhanging homes in both Glen River Mews and Glen River Park adjacent to the Moira Road.

“Whilst I have been advised that this is a significant scheme of work, requiring the Department to bid for extra resources, I am hopeful that these will become available and that the necessary work will be completed without undue delay, so bringing reassurance to those residents whose homes are directly affected by this hazard.”
