More social housing key to preventing homelessness - Ní Chuilín
Sinn Féin MLA Carál Ní Chuilín has said building more social housing is key to addressing the levels of homelessness in the north.
Speaking on World Homeless Day, the party’s Housing spokesperson said:
“The right to a home is fundamental to human dignity, security and well-being, but with insufficient levels of social housing many people are struggling to access this right.
“More than 37,000 households in the north are waiting to be allocated a social house, of which just under 24,000 are registered as in housing stress or homeless.
“Building more social housing is key to addressing these problems.
“Proper and well managed social housing provides a safety net that ensures difficulties faced by many people during their lives such as the loss of a job, ill health, family breakdown or debt does not result in homelessness.”
