Ó Donnghaile challenges Bradley on ‘undemocratic’ comments

23 October, 2018 - by Niall Ó Donnghaile

Sinn Féin Seandóir Niall Ó Donnghaile has challenged British Secretary of State Karen Bradley over her ‘outrageous and undemocratic’ comments defending Brexit on the basis of 60 percent of the North’s unionist community voting to to leave the EU.

Niall Ó Donnghaile was speaking at a meeting today in Downing St of the British-Irish Parliamentary Association.

Niall Ó Donnghaile said:

“I challenged the British Secretary of State on her outrageous comments yesterday that 60 percent of the Unionist community voted to leave the EU.

“These comments are outrageous and undemocratic.

“This also is an attempt to justify her government’s reckless Brexit agenda and complete disregard for the people of the north who voted to remain.

“This is no surprise however as the British government are currently holding back rights and genuine power-sharing as a result of their toxic pact with the DUP.

“Karen Bradley and the British government must live up to agreements and their commitments by prioritising the rights and entitlements of all citizens in the north, not just a select few.”
