‘British Government plumbs new depths to protect toxic DUP pact’ – Murphy
The British Government today proved once again it is prepared to sacrifice the rights of women, the LGBT community and the victims of historical abuse in order to sustain its toxic pact with the DUP, Sinn Féin MLA Conor Murphy has said.
The Sinn Féin negotiator also accused the British Secretary of State of ‘deliberately and wilfully’ undermining the democratic process in order to placate the DUP.
“The depths to which this British Government is prepared to go in order to cling to power were exposed by today’s machinations in Westminster,” Conor Murphy commented.
“The British Secretary of State Karen Bradley got to her feet and again refused to take any measure to help victims of historical institutional abuse.
“Her government also tried to prevent a vote on Labour amendment on abortions and equal marriage from being tabled because they are anathema to the DUP.
“The rights of citizens are clearly secondary to the British Government’s need to sustain its toxic pact with the DUP.”
