‘British budget set to continue cuts’ - Ó Muilleoir
The British Government remains committed to cuts and the latest Tory/DUP budget, due to be announced on Monday, will not reverse the pressure on the North’s public services, Sinn Féin MLA Máirtín Ó Muilleoir MLA has said.
The party’s Finance spokesperson commented: “Since 2010 the Executive’s budget for everyday spending on public services has been slashed by £1 billion in real terms.
“This cut must be reversed if we are to end the budget crisis in our schools and hospitals and give teachers and nurses the pay increase they deserve.
“Failure to reverse these cuts will only make it more difficult to meet growing demands on our public services, particularly as we face the economic calamity of Brexit.
“The DUP’s pact with the Tories has hampered attempts to restore the Assembly and increased the threat of a hard Brexit. On Monday we will find out if it has also consolidated austerity.”
