Stabbing on Commuter train ‘disturbing’ – Louise O’Reilly TD
Speaking today Sinn Féin TD for Fingal Louise O’Reilly expressed concern following a stabbing incident on the Drogheda bound commuter train.
Teachta O’Reilly said:
“As a regular user of this service myself I am shocked at this incident.
“I hope that the victim will make a full recovery and this incident highlights the fact that we also have to consider the health and safety of staff and commuters on this service.
“Iarnród Éireann needs to give consideration to how best to protect the health and safety of train staff and passenger - and if this means a dedicated transport police service, then this avenue must be explored in terms of feasibility.
“Anti-social behaviour on trains is on the rise and it must be tackled.
“Iarnród Éireann has increased patrols in recent times but in light of this shocking incident the security must now be reviewed as a matter of urgency.”
