‘Brexit Secretary ignoring peoples concerns on Brexit’ - Hazzard

2 November, 2018 - by Chris Hazzard

Sinn Féin MP Chris Hazzard said the Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab is wilfully ignoring the views of a majority of people by failing to hear the concerns of the South Down community.

The South Down MP said:

“Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab has demonstrated a complete disrespect and disregard for the electorate of South Down by sneaking into the constituency in a stunt visit and failing to hear their concerns on the consequences of Brexit for this area.

“A majority of people here voted to remain. The Tories are wilfully ignoring that just as Dominic Raab is ignoring the views of the people of this area.

"This is a perfect illustration of the anger and frustration in this community about the shambles that the Brexit negotiations has become.

“Brexit is going to have a catastrophic impact on the local economy and the community in South Down and across the north.

“Community projects that were going to enhance and transform the services and facilities for the benefit community will not be going ahead because of Brexit.

“We want to talk to the Brexit Secretary and put the communities concerns to him to get answers. It’s completely unacceptable that he failed to hear our concerns.

"Given the arrogance of the Tory/DUP pact and their attempts to renege on the backstop, it is crucial that the EU and the Irish government ensure that the backstop is protected.”
