Rural Ireland abandoned by establishment
Sinn Féin Agriculture spokespersons, North Kerry TD Martin Ferris and Fermanagh South Tyrone MP Michelle Gildernew have accused governments, north and south, of abandoning rural Ireland.
In a joint statement after the National Ploughing Championships in County Cork Mr Ferris TD and Ms Gildernew MP said:
"There was a very positive reception and thousands of people visited the Sinn Féin stand at the National Ploughing Championships.
"Rural Ireland is ever increasingly looking to Sinn Féin as the alternative in challenging the damaging policies of the government parties and civil servants.
"Farm families from across the island are now realising that the establishment are only interested in big business and vested interests.
"Tens of thousands of people have been forgotten about across a host of policy areas from healthcare, to schools, roads infrastructure and income levels. Rural Ireland has been further disenfranchised by the administrations, north and south.
"Every single person Sinn Féin spoke to over the past three days has been scathing about the jailing of the farmers from Rossport and the giving away of a massive natural and economic resource for the West of Ireland." ENDS
