Emma Sheerin selected to replace Ian Milne
Sinn Féin this evening selected Emma Sheerin to replace Ian Milne as the party’s MLA for Mid-Ulster.
Ian Milne is stepping down from the Assembly to return to local government and 26-year-old Emma Sheerin was selected at a party convention in Gulladuff.
The Ballinascreen native is a member of Sinn Féin’s Cúige Uladh Officer Board, Ard Chomhairle and a long time party activist.
Speaking after the selection convention, she spoke of her pride at taking up the new role.
Emma Sheerin commented:
“I am very proud and honoured to have been selected to go forward for Ard Chomhairle approval to replace Ian Milne.
“I have worked closely with Ian over many years and know the great work that he has done for this constituency. I certainly have big boots to fill but I am greatly looking forward to building on Ian’s work and continuing to deliver for Mid-Ulster as part of a strong Sinn Féin team.
“These are pivotal times in our political process. Brexit, the impact of Tory cuts and the DUP’s denial of rights are huge challenges. But I also see huge opportunities in terms of the growing demand for rights, equality and Irish Unity.
“Positive change and a better future is possible and I am greatly looking forward to playing my part as MLA for Mid-Ulster in shaping a new Ireland.”
